EVAoSD Meeting Location:

Coleman University, Hopper Hall

(straight back from main lobby - quick right then left)

8888 Balboa Avenue

San Diego, CA 92123

Monday, 23 Novber 2015, 7:00 P.M.

Our EVAOSD Monthly meeting will occur at Coleman University. We will cover current and upcoming events, news of the day, and member projects. We'll have the opportunity to chat with Coleman students, faculty, and alumni that are interested in our experience, projects, and future. Coleman is our alternating meeting location with CSE as we introduce our club to the students at Coleman. We're meeting on Monday to stay clear of everyone's Thanksgiving plans. See You there!

If you have a non-OEM Electric Vehicle (kit car, conversion, ...), consider being our centerpiece for participation in the San Diego International Auto Show at the end of December (31 December - 3 January 2016). We usually get floor space for at least three cars.

This is the Best and Biggest event EVAOSD supports for advocating and educating the public on EVs. While we are showing off someone's car(s), I am also soliciting volunteers to be on site to answer questions during the event. Anyone who is a presenter gets official credentials and get in free all day and every day of the show. But, we have nothing if we don't have a car to show.

What is: MPGe ?

MPGe is an attempt to equate distance and electrical energy [kWh] to distance and chemical energy [gallons of galoline]. The EPA says that 1 gallon of gasoline is equal to about 115,000 BTU [gasoline burned into carbon dioxide and water vapor] which is equal to 33.7 kWh. One horsepower is equal to about 746 watts and to 550 lb-ft/s [as in lifting 55 lb 10 ft in 1 second]. Also 1 mile is 5280 feet. Plugging in the numbers: 1 hp = 375 lb-miles/hour, Therefore 1 Ge [gallon electric] = 33.7 kWh = 45.174 hp-h = 16940 lb-miles. i.e. 100 MPGe should be enough energy to push 169.4 lbf for 100 miles. Note that the 169.4 lbf is the force pushing the vehicle and not the vehicle weight. [Let me know if I slipped a digit!]

The Electric Vehicle Association of San Diego [EVAoSD] is an affiliate of the Electric Auto Association [EAA], and is a organization of electric car owners, electric car enthusiasts, and ordinary people who would just like to learn a little more about electric vehicles.

The meetings are now at 7:00 p.m. every month except June & December. The June meeting is outside at 6:00 p.m. and there is no December meeting. And yes, each months newsletter will be in the Newsletter directory the weekend before the meeting.
